Schultz’s Small Group Testimony For 40 Days of Community

Our first Project Blessing took place on Saturday, April 22, at the Hope House Administrative Offices. I say
“first project” because our group is very excited in anticipation of doing more. First of all, the whole attitude
of servanthood is so obvious among our small group. The ability to identify need and do all that is necessary
to meet this need is our goal and gives each of us a tremendous blessing.

When we were reading through the booklet containing the Project Blessing information, we saw many, yes many
projects that we wanted to do. The Hope House one jumped out at us, largely because it reminded us so much
of the Rainbow House, a project that most of our small group members got to be a part of several years ago.
Darcy Fry communicated to us very clearly that the Hope House serves many, many people in several counties and
they needed the help in such a tremendous way. She told us, they serve so many people and they have literally
no one else who can step in and help them. They have such a huge need for help. Very quickly the group felt the
burden that this was the project we were to take on. God saw fit to give us this project as all of the groups were
given their assignments for Project Blessing.

Our small group is made up of a wide range of talents and occupations, so the experience and backgrounds are
diverse enough to meet a variety of needs.

When asked, “Why do you like to do these projects?” Most of the group responds with an answer like “Because
I like to help other people who need the help and I love being with the people in my small group--they are great
people who love God.” Other responses included “I wouldn’t miss this for he world.” Or “ I love being able to show
God’s love without having to say a word.” Or “It doesn’t matter what the job is, we need to give it all we got.”
What wonderful responses to hear from so many people. The attitude of the whole group is one of love, service,
compassion, lots of humor, and a sense of family.

When we worked together at the Hope House offices, there was no worry of how are we going to get all of this
done, where do we even start, who will clean up. There was no bickering, no stealing of glory. God fills in all of
the spaces left in our limited thinking. God is so faithful in giving us complete peace of mind and spirit in knowing
that this is where God wants our hearts to be serving Him. Everyone of us that took part in this project, once
again, got to experience the joy of completing a large job for people in need, people that God loves, people that
are part of our community—our love community. Our small group loves, absolutely loves, doing life together
—in community!
